1 dead, 2 injured in knife attack in Japan

ISTANBUL (AA) - One person was killed and two others were injured Wednesday in a knife attack in central Japan, according to Japan-based Kyodo News Agency.

The attack at a central Japan train station in Nagano was in front of a bus terminal and restaurants, it said.

A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the hospital after the attack. Two others -- a man in his 30s and a woman in her 40s -- were injured.

The surviving male victim was reportedly seriously injured while the woman was mostly unharmed.

The attacker was described as approximately 40 years old, slim and around 1.7 meters tall (5’5”). He reportedly ran after the attack.

Authorities believe it was a random attack, since at least of one the victims was unfamiliar with the attacker.
