Lebanon’s state media reports fatal drone strike near Tyre; Israeli army claims it targeted Hezbollah operative
By Mohammad Sio
ISTANBUL (AA) – One person was killed Friday in an Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon, the country’s state news agency reported, as the Israeli military said it targeted a Hezbollah member despite the ceasefire.
The National News Agency (NNA) said an Israeli drone struck a car in the al-Assi area on the outskirts of the town of Seddiqin, in the Tyre district. The strike killed the person inside the vehicle, the agency reported, without providing further details.
In a statement, the Israeli army said that it carried out a strike in the Seddiqin area, targeting a Hezbollah operative.
There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah.
Israeli ceasefire violations have killed and wounded hundreds of Lebanese, while Israel continues to occupy five Lebanese hilltops seized during the latest war, in addition to other Lebanese areas it has held for decades.
Israel began military operations against Lebanon in October 2023 and escalated them into a full-scale war in September 2024, killing more than 4,000 people and wounding about 17,000 others.
