ISTANBUL (AA) - At least one person was killed and three injured on Sunday by Ukrainian airstrikes in Russia’s border region of Belgorod.
“In Shebekino, one civilian was killed as a result of a drone attack on an apartment building. The woman died from her wounds at the scene before paramedics arrived,” Vyacheslav Gladkov, Belgorod’s governor, said on Telegram.
Saying that three settlements in the region were targeted during Ukraine’s attack, Gladkov said two apartment buildings and two private homes were damaged in Shebekino, a town about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) from the Russia-Ukraine border.
A bus belonging to an agricultural enterprise was damaged in the village of Saltykovo, while a car was hit in the village of Petrovka, he added.
Gladkov said in a later statement that Shebekino was struck again, injuring two people, also saying that the attack damaged two apartment buildings and a social facility.
He added in another statement that a person was injured after a drone struck a car on the highway between the settlements of Yasnye Zori and Oktyabrsky.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that overnight it had downed two Ukrainian drones over Belgorod, which borders eastern Ukraine, a region Russia has claimed to annex and remains the site of fierce fighting.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on Russia’s statements.
