KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - At least 11 policemen were killed and another 10 injured after heavily-armed bandits fired rockets on security vehicles in northeastern Pakistan on Thursday evening, police said.

The attack - latest in a series of similar incidents - occurred in the remote riverine area of Rahimyar Khan district, which sits on the border between northeastern Punjab and southern Sindh provinces, city police chief Imran Ahmed told reporters.

The bandits, according to Ahmed, fired rockets on two security vehicles, with one of them stuck in a puddle, becoming an easy target for the bandits.

The riverine area between the two provinces has long been serving as a haven for several groups of bandits involved in kidnap for ransom.

Several operations have been launched to dismantle these groups in the recent years but to no avail.
