BERLIN (AA) — At least 16 people have been injured in powerful storms that ripped through southern Germany on Thursday evening.

Six were injured — one seriously — after trees fell in a camping site near Lindau, a town on the shores of Lake Constance, said police, adding that 900 people were evacuated from the area and had taken shelter in an exhibition hall.

Several motorcyclists were injured by flying debris in the town of Nordlingen, about 150 kilometers (93 miles) northeast. Three of them were taken to the hospital.

In the Bavarian capital Munich, city train services were cancelled on Thursday evening, with authorities saying further cancellations and delays are possible on Friday.

Extreme weather conditions are expected to continue in the coming days in western and southern Germany, according to the latest forecasts.

The national meteorological service, DWD, issued a warning on Friday and said heavy rainfall and gusts of up to 110 km/h (68 mph) were expected in the North Rhine-Westphalia region throughout the day.
