SRINAGAR, Jammu and Kashmir (AA) - Indian police arrested two suspects and seized 108 kilograms (238 pounds) of gold near the China border in the Ladakh area of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indo-Tibetan border police said a team from the 21st battalion conducted a long-range patrol in eastern Ladakh and seized the gold biscuits near the Sirigaple area.

“Further investigations are ongoing with other agencies,” border police wrote on X.

The confiscated items also included two mobile phones, binoculars, two ponies, one torch-wonder, two knives and several Chinese food items including cakes and milk, according to officials.

A border police officer who did not want to be identified told Anadolu that an investigation has been launched and the gold was handed to the Customs Department.

“For now, I cannot share more details as the investigation is ongoing,” said the official.

It is the biggest haul of gold recovered by Indian border police in history, the official added.

Ladakh is separately administered since India removed the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019.
