Iraqi authorities blame Daesh/ISIS terror group for violence

By Ibrahim Saleh

BAGHDAD (AA) – Iraqi forces shot down a drone in western Iraq, while two civilians were killed in the southern Dhi Qar province, according to local security officials on Sunday.

A police officer said the drone was shot down on Saturday while flying over the main police headquarters in the western Fallujah city in Anbar province.

He said the drone was equipped with a camera for spying purposes, suggesting that it was being used to spy on security forces in the city.

The Daesh/ISIS terrorist group is still active in the Anbar province.

Meanwhile, two Iraqi civilians were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the town of Smeilat in Dhi Qar province on Saturday, police lieutenant Jamil al-Husseini told Anadolu Agency.

He said an investigation has been launched into the attack, for which no group has yet claimed responsibility.

In recent months, Iraq suffered dozens of attacks by unknown terrorists. Iraqi authorities blame the Daesh/ISIS for the violence as the terrorist group is still active in some areas across the country.
