2 die in Bulgaria floods, state of emergency declared

People ordered to evacuate, several teams of firefighters dispatched to deal with the situation

ATHENS (AA) – Bulgaria on Tuesday declared a state of emergency amid severe floods which killed two people in the southern resort town of Tsarevo, state-run BTA news agency reported.

While people in the area were ordered to evacuate, several teams of firefighters were dispatched from the nearby towns of Burgas and Primorsko to deal with the situation.

Veleka River has brimmed over, inundating the road between the villages of Varvara and Sinemorets and making it impassable for traffic.

The official National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology issued warnings for strong winds, and thunderstorms in 15 regions.
