ANKARA (AA) – Two elderly occupants of a light plane died in a crash landing in Queensland, Australia's northeastern state, local media reported on Sunday.
The plane crashed near the entrance to the Boonah Golf Club in Queensland's Scenic Rim region, Australia's ABC News reported.
Emergency services were called after the incident, which occurred across the street from the golf club.
Acting Inspector Kerry Olsen said the pilot appeared to be attempting to land at Boonah Airfield, where they had taken off earlier, when the plane crashed.
"Tragically, two people have lost their lives as a result of that crash. Emergency services are still on scene," ABC News quoted Olsen as saying.
"We have police with the families of the two persons who were on that plane. We wish those families every possible amount of support,” Olsen added.
Police said they had located the bodies of a 69-year-old man and an 82-year-old man.
It is believed nearby golfers called emergency services.
Police have asked for any witnesses, or people with footage of planes flying in the area around the time of the crash, to contact them.
