ANKARA (AA) - Two Syrian opposition fighters died and seven others were injured during clashes in northern Syria on Monday, the Turkish military said in a statement Tuesday.

According to the Turkish Armed Forces, the Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army also took “most of the control” in three more villages near the Daesh-held al-Bab town.

The military added that Syrian opposition forces also hit Daesh and PKK/PYD targets, including shelters, command-and-control centers and vehicles on Monday.

Operation Euphrates Shield began in late August to rid Syria's northern border area of terrorists. Tuesday marks the 84th day of the operation.

Nearly 1,700 square kilometers (656 square miles) of land in northern Syria have been cleared of Daesh terrorists as part of Turkey’s Operation Euphrates Shield so far.

In total, 36 mines and 1,548 improvised explosives have been defused since the start of the operation on Aug. 24.
