JERUSALEM (AA) - At least two people were injured in a stabbing attack in Beersheba, southern Israel on Sunday, police said.
In a statement, police said the incident took place at the central bus station and that the perpetrator was "neutralized by security forces through gunfire."
The "lightly injured individuals" were evacuated to the Soroka Medical Center, while police forces stayed at the crime scene, the statement added.
The Magen David Adom Ambulance Service said paramedics were treating a 20-year-old male in "mild condition.”
"We were on scene in large numbers, to a 20 year old conscious male with a stab wound to his body. We immediately began medical treatment, including bandaging and drug-therapy,” and evacuated him to a hospital intensive care unit, the medical service said in a statement.
Tensions have been running high across the occupied Palestinian territories since Israel launched a military offensive in the Gaza Strip following an Oct. 7 Hamas attack which claimed 1,200 lives.
More than 32,700 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have since been killed in the besieged enclave besides leading to destruction, displacement, and famine conditions.
