2 killed in light aircraft crash in Kenya’s Rift Valley region

NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) - Two people died after a light aircraft crashed at Kedong Ranch in Naivasha, Kenya’s Rift Valley region, late Thursday evening, the country's civil aviation authority confirmed.

The accident involved a Cessna 185 aircraft, which had departed from Wilson Airport in Nairobi and was en route to Mbaruk, a town around 130 kilometers (81 miles) northwest of the capital.

Naivasha police chief Charles Mwai told reporters on Friday that rescue operations were hindered by poor terrain and bad weather.

The aviation authority said it is “actively coordinating with relevant authorities, including the Air Accident Investigation Department, emergency responders, and local security personnel, to gather further details and facilitate response efforts.”

The civil aviation director, Gen. Emile Arao, extended condolences, and said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
