Tensions high in West Bank amid repeated Israeli raids into Palestinian towns

By Qais Abu Samra

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – Two Palestinians were injured by Israeli fire in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, according to local medics.

Clashes erupted in the town of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron, after Israeli forces fired tear gas canisters at a school, eyewitnesses said.

Dozens suffered temporary asphyxiation from the Israeli tear gas, including several students, witnesses said.

Two Palestinians were also injured by Israeli live fire during the clashes, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement.

Tensions have been running high across the occupied West Bank in recent months amid repeated Israeli raids into Palestinian towns.

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the start of this year, the Health Ministry said. At least 35 Israelis have also been killed in Palestinian attacks during the same period, the highest toll since 2005.
