2 Peshmerga fighters killed in Daesh/ISIS terrorist attack in northern Iraq
Attack aimed at 3 Peshmerga observation points in region

KIRKUK, Iraq (AA) – At least two Peshmerga soldiers of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) were killed and four others wounded late Sunday in an attack by Daesh/ISIS terrorists in northern Iraq, according to the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.
The ministry said in a statement that the terrorist group carried out an attack on Kara Salim village near Altin Kopru city in Kirkuk province.
The attack was aimed at three separate Peshmerga observation points in the region, it added.
The statement also noted that an operation was launched in the region after the attack.
Attacks blamed on Daesh/ISIS fighters have escalated in Iraq in recent months, especially in the provinces of Salahuddin, Diyala and Kirkuk.
In 2017, Iraq declared victory over Daesh/ISIS by reclaiming all of its territories -- or about a third of the country's area -- invaded by the terror group in 2014.
But the terrorist group still maintains sleeper cells in large areas of Iraq and periodically launches attacks. The Iraqi army continues to carry out frequent operations against the group in parts of the country.
