ISTANBUL (AA) - Two lawmakers from Italy’s right-wing League party on Thursday signed an amendment opposing a government decree authorizing the dispatch of new weapons to Ukraine, Italy’s ANSA news agency reported.
Lawmakers Edoardo Ziello and Roberto Sasso signed the amendment calling for the “total removal of the government’s commitment to authorize the dispatch of new supplies and military equipment in support of the authorities in Kyiv.”
Asked what would happen if the majority rejects the amendment, Ziello said he would take note of the decision. “Then I will make an assessment for myself,” he said.
Sasso and Ziello had also voted against the majority resolution on Ukraine in January.
The resolution endorsed the Italian government’s position to continue supporting Ukraine, backing its communications on extending authorization for arms and other assistance in coordination with NATO, the European Union, the G7 and allies, and reaffirming Italy’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense.
