Cox’s Bazar refugee camp witnesses killings as thousands more refugees flee to Bangladesh from Myanmar

ISTANBUL (AA) - At least two Rohingya refugees were killed in Bangladesh on Wednesday, police said.

The pre-dawn two shooting incidents happened in the southeastern Cox’s Bazar refugee camp, the UNB News reported.

Shamim Hossain, a police official at the Ukhiya police station, confirmed that the incidents happened at the Kutupalong Camp-20 and Camp-4.

The slain were identified as Imam Hossain, 37, from Camp-20, and Rahmatullah, 25, from Camp-4.

Around 1.2 million Rohingya have been living in Bangladesh since August 2017, fleeing a severe military crackdown in Myanmar's Rakhine state.

Most of them live in overcrowded Cox’s Bazar refugee camp.

In recent weeks, around 10,000 Rohingya community members have fled to Bangladesh amid an armed conflict between the junta regime in Myanmar and rebel groups.
