ANBAR, Iraq (AA) - Two-hundred Daesh terrorists detained in Syria were handed over to the Iraqi authorities on Friday, according to a local security source.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Iraqi Police Captain Ahmed al-Delimi said the terrorists were handed over by the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which is closely affiliated with the PKK terrorist group.
According to al-Delimi, the handover took place in the city of Al-Qaim in Iraq’s western Anbar province near the Syrian border.
“This is the fourth batch of terrorists that Iraq has received from the SDF,” the police captain said, putting the total number of Daesh terrorists to have been handed over at 680 to date.
In late 2017, officials in Baghdad declared that Daesh's military presence in Iraq had been all but destroyed following a three-year war with the notorious terrorist group.
