2025 becomes UK's warmest, sunniest year ever: Official data
'This is an increasingly clear demonstration of the impacts of climate change on UK temperatures,' says UK weather agency

LONDON (AA)—The UK experienced its hottest and sunniest year on record in 2025, surpassing the previous record set in 2022, according to provisional figures revealed on Friday.
The Met Office, Britain's weather agency, announced that 2025 is a "double-record breaker," as the country had its warmest and sunniest year on record, surpassing the previous high set in 2022.
The Met Office stated that 2025's average temperature of 10.09 degrees Celsius (50.16 degrees Fahrenheit) places it among the top three warmest years since 1884.
"This is an increasingly clear demonstration of the impacts of climate change on UK temperatures," the Met Office said in a statement.
Meanwhile, as previously confirmed, 2025 was also the sunniest year since the series began in 1910, with 1648.5 hours of sunshine—61.4 hours more than the previous record set in 2003.
Mark McCarthy, head of climate attribution at the Met Office, noted that this very warm year is in line with the expected consequences of human-induced climate change.
"We’re increasingly seeing UK temperatures break new ground in our changing climate, as demonstrated by a new highest UK mean temperature record just three years after the last record," he said in the statement.
