24 missing after heavy floods in northern Yemen

Flash floods killed dozens, affected over 250,000 people in Yemen since July, according to UN figures

SANAA, Yemen (AA) – At least 24 people were reported missing after heavy floods caused by torrential rains in Al-Mahwit province in northern Yemen, the Houthi group said on Wednesday.

Seven homes and four shops were also destroyed by the floods and landslides in Melhan district in the province, the Houthi-run Al-Masirah television said, citing a police statement.

Flash floods caused by seasonal rains have killed dozens and affected over 250,000 displaced people in Yemen since last July, according to UN figures.

A decade-long conflict between the Yemeni government and Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen has badly damaged the country’s infrastructure and health facilities and caused a catastrophic humanitarian situation there.
