LONDON (AA) – Some 28,600 more Ukrainians have crossed into Poland in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people fleeing war in their country to over 15.6 million, Polish authorities said on Monday.

More than 15.6 million people have entered Poland from Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022, when Russia launched its war against Ukraine, according to Polish Border Guard figures.

Data also revealed that 13.8 million Ukrainians left Poland during the same period.

In its statement in March, the Polish Presidential Office stated that nearly 1.3 million Ukrainian refugees remained in Poland.

In April, President Andrzej Duda said that the country was home to an estimated 3 million Ukrainians, including those who arrived in Poland before the war began in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, authorities state that border crossings and returns can be made by the same person and that they control the number of crossings rather than the number of people.

Around 4 million non-EU Ukrainians currently have temporary protection status in the bloc countries, according to data.

The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war has killed over 9,500 civilians and wounded more than 17,200, according to the latest UN figures.
