ISTANBUL (AA) - South Korean police have detained three foreign minors participating in a world scout event over theft charges, local media reported Tuesday.
The three male European suspects, aged as young as 14, are under investigation for stealing $75 worth of clothes from a store in Seoul on Monday, Yonhap News reported, citing the police in the capital’s Gangnam district.
Authorities said the investigation against the unnamed trio would be conducted in speedy manner to ensure they “return home according to the planned schedule,” set to leave South Korea on Aug. 23, according to Yonhap.
They were taking part in the World Scout Jamboree, where roughly 43,000 participants from 158 countries attended events that began Aug. 1 and concluded last week.
The event, marred by a heat wave, storm, and criticized for poor preparation, was being held in the western Saemangeum Reclaimed Area before participants had to transported to Seoul and other areas over these setbacks.
