4 irregular migrants attempting to cross into Europe in truck die in Türkiye

EDIRNE, Türkiye (AA) – Four irregular migrants who attempted to cross into Europe by hiding inside a trailer truck died in northwestern Türkiye on Sunday.

The driver of the truck heard noises coming from the trailer when he arrived at Ipsala Truck Park in Edirne province.

He opened the trailer and found four male irregular migrants lying motionless inside.

Health teams arrived at the scene and declared two of the migrants dead. The other two were referred to a hospital but could not be saved despite all efforts.

The driver told police that the irregular migrants might have gotten into the trailer when he stopped to take a break in Gelibolu district.

The truck was carrying cargo from the Turkish province of Izmir to Thessaloniki, Greece.

Türkiye has been a key transit point for irregular migrants seeking to enter Europe to begin new lives, particularly those fleeing war and persecution.​​​​​​​
