HOUSTON, United States (AA) - A 5.7 magnitude earthquake shook Hawaii's Big Island on Friday causing several aftershocks.
The US Geological Survey originally put the strength of the quake at a 6.3 magnitude before lowering it to 5.7.
The quake produced strong shaking across the chain of islands in the US state located in the Pacific Ocean, but no injuries or damage have been reported.
“We didn’t know what to do so we sat in our doorways,” Alia Zannoni told Hawaii News Now. “My family on Kauai said they felt it, too.”
Other residents on the Big Island told the news outlet they felt a strong shaking, items jumped off shelves and pictures fell from walls.
In the neighboring Island of Oahu, residents said that they felt the trembling.
Officials said there have been at least six aftershocks in the wake of the initial tremor, but no tsunami is expected, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
