Landslides caused by heavy monsoon rains in Nepal have killed nine people, including five members of a same family, officials said on Saturday.
Five members of a family perished when their house was buried by a landslide in Central Nepal's Gulmi district after heavy rainfall on Friday night. The victims included a 56-year-old man, his 47-year-old wife, their 30-year-old daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters, the Nepal News reported, citing a police officer.
Police officer Rajan Bhujel confirmed that the bodies have been recovered from the debris of their house.
Additionally, four more people died in separate landslides across the mountainous region. These incidents highlight the ongoing risks posed by the monsoon rains in Nepal.
Local authorities are working to assess the damage and provide assistance to the affected families.
The landlocked country in South Asia is grappling with monsoon rains that are expected to continue until mid-September. Hundreds of people are killed every year by landslides and flash floods in Nepal.
