IDLIB, Syria (AA) - Six civilians were wounded Wednesday in an attack by the Syrian Army in Idlib province.
Military forces and Iran-backed foreign terrorist groups stationed in the city of Saraqib launched an artillery attack on the town of Sarmin.
The wounded were transported to nearby hospitals, according to sources from the White Helmets civil defense group.
Türkiye, Russia and Iran decided to create four de-escalation zones in areas not under Syrian government control during talks in Astana, Kazakhstan in 2017.
Despite the agreement, the Syrian government, backed by Iran-backed terrorist groups and Russia, continued their attacks, seizing three of the zones and focusing on Idlib.
Although Türkiye reached an additional agreement with Russia in September 2018 to reinforce the cease-fire, the attacks intensified in May 2019.
Following a new agreement reached by Türkiye and Russia on March 5, 2020, the cease-fire has largely held.
Between 2017 and 2020, approximately 2 million civilians fled attacks and were forced to migrate to areas near the Turkish border.
