ISTANBUL (AA) – Six militants affiliated with the Daesh/ISIS terrorist group were killed in a "special operation" in Ingushetia, a Russian republic located in the North Caucasus, state media reported on Sunday.
Six militants were killed while holed up in an apartment building in the town of Karabulak, state news agency TASS reported, citing a statement issued by Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK).
The identities of those killed have been established, the NAK said, adding that preliminary information suggested that these militants were affiliated with the Daesh/ISIS terror group.
According to the counter-terrorism authorities, three of those killed were on the federal terrorist watchlist.
"During the inspection of the site, automatic weapons, ammunition, grenades, and an improvised explosive device were discovered," the statement said, adding that no law enforcement officers or civilians were injured during the operation.
The special operation has ended. However, the counter-terrorism operation would continue, Ingushetia's operational services confirmed to TASS.
Following clashes between security forces and militants, local authorities announced on Saturday that they would launch a counter-terrorism operation in Karabulak.
