BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - Sixty-three members of an armed group, reportedly affiliated with the former FARC's 33rd Front, have surrendered to security forces in Tibu, handing over their weapons in Colombia's northern region of Catatumbo.

The army reported seizing one ton of explosives, more than 50 assault rifles, two machine guns, a sniper rifle, 25 handguns and ammunition during a land sweep.

Additionally, 20 children who had been forcibly recruited by the group were rescued, and communication and logistical equipment confiscated.

The Defense Ministry separately offered a $700,000 reward for information leading to the capture of four ELN leaders, wanted by authorities.

The developments come amid escalating violence between the ELN and former FARC members, with fighting for control of coca crops and drug trafficking routes.

The fighting has displaced more than 35,000 residents, with more than 80 killed and 20 injured in recent weeks.

President Gustavo Petro suspended peace talks with the ELN on Jan 17, citing the group's lack of a commitment to peace.
