GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) - Seven Palestinians were killed Tuesday in an Israeli shelling that targeted a school housing displaced residents in the town of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip.

Witnesses told Anadolu that Israeli fire struck the Zaid bin Harithah school in Beit Lahia and several Palestinians were injured in the attack.

Israel has systematically targeted civilian facilities, including schools, hospitals and places of worship, amid its offensive on Gaza.

Targeting such civilian facilities can constitute a war crime, under the rules of war.

The Israeli army stepped up its massive assault in northern Gaza amid a suffocating siege that has left tens of thousands without food and water.

The onslaught, which began Oct. 5, is the latest episode in Israel’s brutal onslaught that has killed more than 42,700 victims, mostly women and children, and injured nearly 100,300 since last October following an attack on Israel by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas.

The Israeli onslaught has displaced almost the entire population of the territory amid a blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice because of its actions in Gaza.
