DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) - At least 708 people, mostly civilians, were killed during demonstrations against the rule of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said Bangladesh's transitional government on Tuesday.

Bangladesh witnessed mass student-led uprising in July and August, resulting in end to Hasina’s 15-year rule after she fled the country on Aug. 5 amid a surge of protesters in Dhaka and around her residence.

Following Hasina’s departure, Bangladesh’s only Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus assumed leadership of the transitional government and pledged to release the list of those killed during the July uprising.

The list, primarily featuring names of civilians along with a few police personnel, was released by Umme Habiba, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

It will be available for public review until Oct. 6, enabling families and representatives of the deceased to verify, correct, or add names, addresses, and other relevant details.
