NEW DELHI (AA) - At least nine crew members of a Comoros-flagged oil tanker that capsized off Oman earlier this week have been rescued, while one died, according to Indian and Omani officials.

The Prestige Falcon, with a crew of 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans, capsized off Oman on July 15.

Subsequently, Indian Navy mission deployed warship INS (Indian Naval Ship) Teg, rendering search and rescue assistance.

The Indian Navy said late on Wednesday night that it has rescued nine personnel, which includes eight Indians and one Sri Lankan.

“The MV (Motor Vessel) is reported to have had a total of 16 crew, including 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans,” it said, adding that search and rescue assistance by Indian and Omani assets “is being undertaken in challenging weather conditions as the area is experiencing rough sea and strong winds.”

Oman's Maritime Security Centre said on Wednesday night that search and rescue operations found 10 crew members, while one crew member was found deceased.

“The search and rescue operations continue for the remaining members of the vessel's crew,” it said.
