- Istanbul Jazz Festival continues

British musician Hugh Coltman will be performing with French Quarter as part of the Istanbul Jazz Festival at the Uniq open-air theater on July 15.

His album released last year, Shadows -- Songs of Nat King Cole, sheds light on the world of the late singer and jazz pianist in an America where “segregation and racism were rife”, according to Coltman’s website.

- Three exhibitions at Istanbul gallery

Istanbul art space Alt is hosting sculpture, video and installation exhibitions by four artists between July 13 and Oct. 9.

Ahmet Sogut, an artist from Turkey’s southeastern Diyarbakir province, will exhibit newly commissioned sculptures, installations and video works reflecting on injustice and resistance, according to the Alt website.

The work of Marwa Arsanios, who lives and works in Lebanon, focuses on the politics of resistance in the Arab world and her video Have You Ever Killed a Bear, or Becoming Jamila concentrates on Algerian freedom fighter Jamila Bouhired.

Artists Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla present two video installations -- The Great Silence and Apotome -- dealing with sensory perception, the first by concentrating on the work of the world’s largest radio telescope and the second in dealing with a 1798 musical experiment on communicating with animals.
