AK Party: Removal of Turkish central bank head is legal
Ruling Justice and Development Party deputy chair defends Central Bank head's dismissal via presidential decree
By Muhammet Emin Avundukluoglu
ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party on Monday defended the removal of the country's Central Bank head.
"The removal was within the rights that was entitled to the president," deputy party chair Mehmet Mus told reporters in parliament.
Denying allegations that the removal was "unlawful," and "illegal", Mus said any discussion on the matter was "out of question."
Former Turkish Central bank Governor Murat Cetinkaya was dismissed from his post early Saturday via presidential decree, to be replaced by deputy governor Murat Uysal.
