Algeria, Azerbaijan sign deal to establish joint economic commission

Representatives from both countries to begin commission's work shortly, says Azerbaijani foreign minister

ALGERIA, ISTANBUL (AA) - Algeria and Azerbaijan signed a deal to establish a joint commission for trade, economic, scientific, and technical cooperation.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune received Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at the El Mouradia Palace in Algiers, said an Algerian presidency statement on Tuesday.

Following the meeting, Bayramov announced the signing of an agreement to establish a joint economic commission between the two countries, emphasizing that representatives from both countries will be appointed to begin the commission's work shortly.

According to the minister, the commission will meet at least once a year to evaluate bilateral cooperation efforts.

“The Joint Commission will serve as a platform to identify new areas of mutual interest, coordinate initiatives, and facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices,” said an Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry statement on US social media company X.

Algeria and Azerbaijan, as members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), are among the world's leading natural gas producers.
