ISTANBUL (AA) - Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, accompanied Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman, presided Monday over the signing ceremony of a number of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and executive programs between the two countries covering several vital sectors.
The signing ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Algerian presidency following talks between the two leaders, according to Algeria’s official news agency, the Algerie Presse Service (APS).
The agreements included MoUs in the fields of energy, mining, agriculture, health, higher education, justice, labor and scientific research, according to APS.
Among them was an MoU signed between the National Company for Mining Research and Exploration (Sonarem) and Minerals Development Oman.
A term sheet was also signed for a preliminary agreement between Sonatrach Group and the Omani company Abraj.
An MoU was also signed between the Algerian Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry and the Omani Ministry of Health, which was signed by Algeria’s Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry Wassim Kouidri and Omani Minister of Health Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti.
An executive program was signed for scientific and technical cooperation in the field of fisheries, along with other MoUs on plant protection and animal health, signed by Algeria’s Minister of Agriculture Youcef Cherfa and his Omani counterpart Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi.
An executive program for cooperation in the field of labor inspection for the period 2025–2027 was signed between the labor ministries of both countries in the presence of Ministers Faisal bin Taleb (Algeria) and Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi (Oman).
An executive cooperation program in the field of higher education and scientific research for the period 2026–2028 was signed by Algerian Minister Kamel Baddari and his Omani counterpart.
MoUs were signed for judicial cooperation between the two Ministries of Justice, as well as between Algeria’s Ministry of Justice and the Omani Supreme Judicial Council.
A term sheet was signed for the establishment of a joint investment fund between Algeria’s Ministry of Finance and the Oman Investment Authority.
Sultan Haitham bin Tariq arrived in Algeria on Sunday for a two-day official visit to discuss bilateral and regional issues. It marks the first visit of its kind in over 52 years.
The last Omani visit to Algeria at this level was in 1973, when the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said visited to participate in the Non-Aligned Movement Summit.
In contrast, President Tebboune’s visit to Oman last October was the first by an Algerian president.
According to the Algerian News Agency, Algeria–Oman relations have witnessed renewed momentum in recent years, driven by the shared will of both leaders to push cooperation toward promising new horizons.
During his visit to Oman last October, President Tebboune and Sultan Haitham endorsed the initiative to establish a joint Algerian-Omani investment fund.
That visit culminated in a joint statement confirming both countries’ commitment to further develop bilateral cooperation across various sectors, with the signing of eight MoUs covering investment promotion, trade fairs and events, education, higher education, the environment and sustainable development, financial services, employment and training, and media.
