ISTANBUL (AA) – The United States instrumental group Balmorhea will perform for fans on July 7-9 in Türkiye.
Michael Muller, one of the founders of Balmorhea, spoke with Anadolu and said: “Our music is open to everyone and all kinds of interpretations. We do not cater to a single audience.”
He mentioned that they took the group’s name from a small town called Balmorhea in western Texas.
“Over 100,000 new songs are added to Spotify every week. There are many artists and many choices in the market. Despite everything, we can continue our path. Many artists who started making music around the same time as us have quit. But we have vowed to continue straight on our path without giving up on what we love and want to do,” he added.
Muller noted that the movie Delibal, starring Cagatay Ulusoy and Leyla Lydia Tugutlu, used one of their songs as a soundtrack in the film.
“One of our songs was used in the movie Delibal, filmed in 2015. After the movie, our group became more recognized in Türkiye. That’s why we frequently come to the country. Since instrumental music doesn’t have lyrics, emotional language dominates the songs. That’s why our music is open to everyone and all kinds of interpretations. We don’t cater to a single audience,” he said.
Rob Lowe, a member and co-founder of the music band, said he was excited to perform in Ankara for the first time.
“We have been to Istanbul four times before but never visited Ankara. It will be nice to have the chance to see the capital of Türkiye on this tour and to visit other cities besides Istanbul and to meet new listeners,” Lowe added.
The band will take the stage in Ankara on July 7 and Istanbul on July 8-9.
Lowe emphasized that their band is different from others as they do not perform for a single genre of music.
“In our songs, you may hear influences from folk, classical, pop, and other genres. We don’t do it intentionally. We draw inspiration from different genres,” Lowe said.
Describing their music as “listening to music playing in your dreams,” Lowe added that they started making music independently.
“We have always been interested in making music this way and will continue to do so in the future. We have gained a considerable fan base, especially in Türkiye. We haven’t had much exposure to mainstream media outlets. Maybe we would have liked that, but ultimately, our task is to attract the attention of the masses by performing our unique music,” he added.
Balmorhea released seven albums in their career and will perform their concerts in collaboration with Epifoni.
The group has previously shared the stage with Fleet Foxes, Mono, Tortoise, Bear in Heaven, Sharon Van Etten, Damien Jurado, and Here We Go Magic.
The group members include Aisha Burns on violin and vocals, Rob Lowe on guitar and piano, Michael Muller on guitar and bass, Jeff Olson on vibraphone and drums, and Sam Pankey on double bass.
