ANKARA (AA) - Anadolu Agency is here with a rundown of the latest developments around the world.

Türkiye expects the US to act in cooperation with it in the fight against terrorist groups such as the PKK/YPG and the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday.

"We expect our American friends to act in cooperation in our fight against the PKK, YPG and FETO in a manner befitting the spirit of alliance," Erdogan said at a dinner event organized by the Turkish American National Steering Committee (TASC) at Rockefeller Center in New York City.

Earlier in the day, Erdogan received a US senator in New York City. The meeting with Democratic Senator Chris Coons of Delaware state took place at the Turkevi Center, or Turkish House, near the United Nations headquarters.

Extraordinary security measures are being taken in New York City ahead of this week’s UN General Assembly, which will be attended by more than 100 heads of state and more than 50 heads of government from all over the world.

Meanwhile, the death toll from recent border clashes between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan rose to 46, with 129 others injured, Kyrgyzstan’s Health Ministry said Sunday.

Kyrgyzstan's President Sadyr Japarov signed a decree Sunday declaring Sept. 19 as a day of national mourning, according to the local news agency Kabar.

In a first, the European Commission proposed on Sunday to suspend some €7.5 billion ($7.5 billion) in EU funds designated for Hungary over corruption and breaches of rule of law.

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck southeastern Taiwan, local media reported Sunday.

The earthquake, which caused shockwaves in most parts of Taiwan, occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers (4.4 miles), said a local Taiwan news outlet, citing the US Geological Survey.

In coronavirus news, while a weekly decline in COVID-19 cases and deaths continues worldwide, the possibility of an increase in the number of virus-related cases with the approach of winter is causing concern.

French Armenian supporters stormed Azerbaijan's Embassy building in France, according to video footage shared in a tweet by the Azerbaijani ambassador Sunday.

"Groundless, unfair accusations" against Azerbaijan made by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during her visit to Armenia are "unacceptable," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said Sunday.

Tunisian authorities on Sunday summoned Ennahda leader Rached Ghannouchi and his deputy for questioning on terrorism accusations.

In sports news, Spain became the EuroBasket 2022 champions after beating France 88-76 in the final on Sunday.
