Anadolu captures footage of new mass grave uncovered near Damascus, Syria

Sacks marked with prison codes, names suggest victims tortured or died in prisons, including Sednaya Military Prison

ISTANBUL (AA) - Anadolu documented a mass grave in the Baghdad Bridge area near the Syrian capital Damascus, believed to contain the remains of civilians killed by the ousted Assad regime.

Mass graves are being uncovered across Syria as part of search and recovery efforts following the fall of the Baath regime. The site features deep trenches filled with human remains.

Evidence suggests that victims, including those who died from torture or harsh conditions in prisons like Sednaya, were buried there.

Footage shows layered bodies and sacks marked with prison codes and what are believed to be the names of the deceased. In one trench, eight sacks filled with remains were recovered, shedding light on the regime's atrocities.

Images and video footage from Sednaya Prison near Damascus unveiled the brutal treatment of detainees by the deposed Syrian regime.

A 2017 report by Amnesty International called Sednaya a "slaughterhouse," documenting abuse against detainees, including rape, torture, and executions.

Bashar Assad, who ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on Dec. 8 after anti-regime groups seized control of Damascus.

The takeover followed a swift, two-week offensive by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) fighters, who captured key cities across the country.
