Soldier killed by Hamas’ sniper fire, taking death toll to 912

ISTANBUL (AA) -Another Israeli soldier was killed in the northern Gaza Strip, the army said on Thursday.

A military statement said that Staff Sergeant Chalachew Shimon Demalash, 21, died from injuries sustained in sniper fire in Gaza City.

He is the second Israeli soldier killed in Gaza City after the Israeli army launched its assault on the city on Aug. 11 from the Zeitoun neighborhood in the southeast, under a plan to gradually reoccupy the enclave.

The campaign, later dubbed “Gideon’s Chariots 2,” has involved house demolitions with booby-trapped robots, artillery shelling, random gunfire, and mass displacement.

His death brought the number of Israeli soldiers killed in the Gaza Strip to 912 since Oct. 2023, where 6,274 others were injured, according to the military toll.

‏The Israeli army has continued a brutal offensive on Gaza, killing more than 65,400 Palestinians since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.
