Argentina commemorates 49th anniversary of military coup

ISTANBUL (AA) – Tens of thousands of people in Argentina marched Monday to mark the 49th anniversary of the military coup.

The day is recognized by the government as the National Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice for the commemoration of victims of "the last military dictatorships" on March 24, 1976 and Dec. 10, 1983.

Citizens gathered in the capital Buenos Aires, holding torches and photos of missing loved ones, and carrying banners that read: "Memory, Truth and Justice."

Human rights groups have condemned President Javier Milei's denial of the dictatorship's crimes and called on the government to find the missing persons.

According to human rights organizations, 30,000 people went missing during the 1976 coup.
