BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - A court in Argentina temporarily suspended President Javier Milei's "labor reform" bill on Wednesday, according to reports.

The Argentine National Labor Court suspended the bill at the request of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), as reported in the national media.

The reform introduces decisions affecting workers, including a reduction in pension contributions and a decrease in fines related to compensation and layoffs, among other measures.

In response, the CGT announced a one-day strike and demonstration Jan. 24 in front of the National Congress to protest the government.

The bill has sparked widespread protests, creating tensions between the ruling party and opposition parties.

Milei had previously declared that the country was going through an economically "difficult" period and announced that radical decisions would be taken.

He emphasized his intention to persistently cut public spending, reduce social support expenditures and privatize financially struggling public entities.
