Army sentries fired several warning shots, used baton to subdue attacker

LONDON (AA) - A 50-year-old army chaplain was seriously injured in a stabbing at Renmore Barracks in County Galway, Ireland, on Thursday night, according to a media report.
The chaplain, who sustained multiple stab wounds, was taken to University Hospital Galway. His injuries are serious but not considered life-threatening, according to Irish broadcaster RTÉ.
Irish police reported that a teenage boy was restrained and arrested at the scene. During the incident, army sentries fired several warning shots and used a baton to subdue the attacker.
Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris acknowledged the incident on X, expressing gratitude to the army personnel and police for their swift response. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Micheál Martin also condemned the attack and praised security personnel for their critical intervention.
