ANKARA (AA) – Asian shares ended Tuesday with gains, while trading in China and most other regional markets was closed for the Lunar New Year holidays.

The risk appetite in global stock markets rose as US Federal Reserve officials signaled that interest rates would be increased faster than expected in their verbal guidance on Monday.

This coincided with the EU posting its yearly gross domestic product for 2021, showing a preliminary rise of 5.2% in the 27-member bloc's economy, which grew to €14.09 trillion, or roughly $15.73 trillion. This was below China's 2021 GDP of $18 trillion.

The Chinese economy saw a 8.1% expansion last year, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, earned 4.25 points, or 0.12%, to close at around 3,673 points.

Tokyo's Nikkei 225 stock exchange was up 76.5 points, or 0.28%, to 27,078 points.

The Indian Sensex benchmark soared 892.49 points, or 1.54%, to close at 58,906 points, and the Singapore index also earned 3.26 points, or 0.1%, to reach 3,249 points.
