At least 2 killed, 20 injured in Russian missile strike on Ukraine's Sumy

ISTANBUL (AA) — At least two people were killed and 20 injured in northeastern Ukraine on Sunday after a Russian missile struck the city of Sumy.

"As a result of being hit by an enemy missile, the buildings of the vocational and technical education institution were destroyed and damaged. Dormitories and high-rise buildings were also damaged ... As a result of the shelling, two people died, 20 were injured," the Sumy City Council said in a statement on Telegram, adding that three people remain in the hospital.

A total of 101 police officers, 22 National Guard personnel and 34 workers were on duty at the scene of the strike, according to the statement.

"Measures to clear the rubble and evacuate the population are continuing. There are 36 employees of the State Emergency Service and seven units of equipment, as well as the same number of units of communal equipment," the statement noted.

It added that temporary accommodations had been provided to 13 people.

Russian officials have not yet commented on the strike.
