ISTANBUL (AA) - At least three people were killed and 12 injured due to overnight Russian shelling in the city of Selydove in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, local authorities said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday night, "Russian occupation forces targeted civilian objects in Selydove," said a Telegram statement by the Selydove City Military Administration, adding: "As a result, 12 residents (4 of them children) were injured. 3 civilians died (1 of them a child).”

Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin also confirmed the casualties on Telegram, saying they were caused by the shelling in the city late Tuesday, which struck a five-story residential building and a three-story hospital building.

Expressing that search and rescue operations are ongoing, Filashkin said rescuers, police, and local authorities are working on the spot to eliminate a fire in the area and evacuate people from damaged premises.

“In total, as a result of the (overnight) strikes, at least nine high-rise buildings, a shop, a pharmacy, and four cars were damaged,” Filashkin added, claiming that Russia fired four rockets at the city.

Russian authorities have not yet commented on the claim.
