Australian social media influencer arrested for ‘poisoning’ baby to elicit donations

Medical staff detected abuse after 1-year-old baby was admitted at Brisbane hospital, say police

ISTANBUL (AA) – A social media influencer has been arrested and charged with torture of a baby, including poisoning her, allegedly to elicit money through donations, police said Thursday.

The 34-year-old mother filmed and took photos of the baby who was in "immense distress and pain."

She reportedly defrauded donors of AUD60,000 (approximately $37,220) via GoFundMe.

She committed the crime without medical approval, a statement by police said.

The crime was detected by medical staff from a hospital in Brisbane’s south while the child was admitted, police said.

She was arrested at Logan, south of Brisbane, on Thursday and accused of committing the acts between Aug. 6 and Oct. 15 last year. She is expected to be presented before a court in Brisbane on Friday.
