ISTANBUL (AA) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Latif Rashid on Monday expressed support for their countries’ positions at international forums
“During the meeting, the sides emphasized that both countries always supported each other's positions within international organizations. They noted that Azerbaijan and Iraq had suffered from occupation, but this situation had become history,” said a statement by the Azerbaijani presidency following talks in a narrow format in Baku.
Aliyev said that the meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic, Trade, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation would be held in Iraq soon, adding that it would play an important role in further expanding economic and trade relations.
For his part, Rashid said: “We are very determined to further strengthen the relations between our two countries. We look forward to welcoming your delegation next month, and I hope its visit will be very productive.”
Aliyev and Rashid also had talks in an expanded format and later held a press conference during which four separate memorandums of understanding were signed between various ministries of the two countries.
