Azerbaijani top diplomat meets Iraqi prime minister in Baghdad
Jeyhun Bayramov, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani discuss ties, Gaza crisis, COP29 cooperation

ISTANBUL (AA) - Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani during a visit to Iraq, according to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
The two officials discussed political, economic, energy, trade and humanitarian cooperation, with both sides expressing an interest in deepening ties.
They exchanged views on regional and global issues, particularly the crisis in the Gaza Strip, and emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution.
Bayramov reiterated Azerbaijan’s support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
The meeting also covered Azerbaijan’s role as host of the COP29 climate summit last November and highlighted outcomes.
Bayramov briefed Iraq on post-conflict reconstruction efforts in the Karabakh region and the peace process with Armenia.
He stressed the need for Armenia to remove territorial claims from its Constitution and legislative acts, and urged the swift signing of a peace treaty to ensure long-term regional stability.
