BAKU, Azerbaijan (AA) - Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday for supporting Azerbaijan in his UN General Assembly speech, in which he highlighted the enduring unity and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, referencing "one nation, two states."
"My dear brother, I thank you for your support to Azerbaijan in your address at the UN General Assembly. As always, today too our brother Türkiye stands by Azerbaijan and supports our just cause. Azerbaijan and Türkiye are always together in good times and in moments of sorrow,” Aliyev said in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“In international organizations, we consistently defend each other's just positions. Our relationship has reached the level of a strategic partnership with the Shusha Declaration. You and I, always remembering the words of the National Leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, that symbolize our brotherhood as 'one nation, two states,' are taking the unwavering unity between Azerbaijan and Türkiye to new heights,” he added.
In his speech, President Erdogan emphasized that Karabakh is unequivocally Azerbaijani territory, rejecting any imposition of a different status.
He advocated for peaceful coexistence for all, including Armenians, within Azerbaijan's borders, reaffirming the "one nation, two states" principle and expressing support for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.
