DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) - Bangladesh’s transitional government issued an order Monday canceling the remaining tenures of three of its ambassadors who were appointed by the administration of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Ministry of Public Administration in a notification cancelled the appointments of ambassador to the US Muhammad Imran, ambassador to Russia Kamrul Ahsan and ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Mohammed Abu Zafar.
The decision to terminate their contracts will be effective immediately, the notification said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will announce the names of new ambassadors to the respective countries following the completion of the appointment process, it added.
Earlier, the transitional government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus recalled three ambassadors and seven mission heads soon after taking office on Aug. 8 this year following the fall of the Awami League government.
Yunus took office after Hasina fled to India on Aug. 5 following a student-led uprising.
At least 775 people were killed and more than 22,000 injured during protests since mid-July this year which ended Hasina’s 15-year rule.
