Bangladesh declared 1st black-fever free country: Health Ministry
Dhaka receives recognition certificate from World Health Organization, say officals

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) - The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday declared Bangladesh the first country to be free of visceral leishmaniasis, or black fever, according to the Health Ministry.
Bangladesh received a certificate from the UN health agency during the WHO’s 76th South Asia Regional Conference in India.
Black fever, also known as Kala-Azar, is a tropical deadly disease.
The four-day WHO conference began Monday.
WHO Regional Director for Southeast Asia, Poonam Khetrapal Singh, handed the certificate to Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque, according to a statement by the ministry.
